The 'PEACE CUP' tournament was initiated in 2007 and is a joint project
between the Kodiak Lions Club and the Kodiak Regional Aquaculture Association.

  The Salmon Derby generates angler excitement well beyond this season's chances of winning. Because derby fund-raising directly benefits Kodiak Regional Aquaculture Association's king salmon enhancement projects on the Kodiak road system, anglers view derby participation as an investment in their sport fishing future. Since 2002, king smolt reared at KRAA facilities have been released into Monashka Creek, with the first adult return in 2005.

In 2007, smolt from the 2005 brood stock were released into the American and Olds rivers!

The mission of the tournament is "To honor Alaska's premier gamefish;
to preserve king salmon sport fishing opportunities for our and future generations;
to promote resource conservation and enhancement in an international forum;
and to have a fun and exciting tournament that benefits Kodiak." Money
collected from sponsors and ticket sales is split between prizes and a
donation to KRAA to further the current king salmon stocking program
(a cooperative program between KRAA and ADF&G Sport Fish Division.)
